The great creator of The Thing is back.

As is often the case, many of cult director John Carpenter's movies did not receive the recognition they deserved until many years after their theatrical release. You can still see Halloween or The Thing on TV screens, and the living classic influenced not only the works of novice filmmakers, but also movies of the masters like Quentin Tarantino.

It would seem that Carpenter could just rest, living off the checks from the remakes. But even in his old age, the director is not idle – he has directed the horror series Suburban Screams, the trailer for which was released by Peacock.

The project explores the unspeakable evil that lurks within the sun-drenched streets, and friendly neighborhoods of suburbia. Each episode of the show will tell a horror story that actually happened, using interviews with survivors, archival footage and reconstructions of events to recreate the story.

The director, who has been considered one of the best masters of the horror genre for nearly half a century, has not directed a film project in more than a decade. His last major work was the 2010 movie The Ward, starring Amber Heard.

There were almost no TV series in Carpenter's directorial filmography, except for the anthology Masters of Horror. The filmmaker shot a one-hour episode for it called Cigarette Burns.

In recent years, Carpenter has focused primarily on music. He had previously written tracks that often became the title themes of his films, and also released several videos for his own compositions. He also wrote the music for the new series.

Back in the summer, Carpenter admitted that he had completed work on Suburban Screams, and in an unusual move, the director managed the entire process remotely:

“It was filmed in Prague, and I sat on my couch and directed it. It was awesome.”

So fans of the great director, get ready to meet his new project – Suburban Screams will be released on October 13 on Peacock.
