All Destiel Parallels in The Winchesters Episode 9

Supernatural fans already see The Winchesters as Jensen Ackles ' own way of changing things he disliked about the original show. Many people in the fandom are now hoping that one of the things Ackles disliked as much as they did was the way Supernatural swept one of its most iconic pairings under the rug.

As a result, people are painstakingly looking for Destiel references, parallels, and allusions in the new episodes. Of course, they find them.

First, many fans have noticed that John and Mary hide their relationship from their friends and family. While this may not seem like an actual Destiel parallel, some shippers certainly felt it was a hint that a certain someone (Dean) might also be hiding something (his relationship with Castiel).

The episode was also rich in representation.

While Dean and Castiel have never shared a kiss on screen (to the outrage of many fans), The Winchesters are perfectly fine with letting Carlos, one of John and Mary's friends, be happy with his new boyfriend and kiss all they want. Now that Ackles made it clear that he is perfectly fine with single-sex kisses in his Supernatural prequel, fans have their hopes up that this was not the last one.

Finally, the ninth episode seems to confirm that Dean Winchester did, in fact, time travel to the past to set things right. We don't remember humans being able to time travel, but you know who definitely is? Angels. Maybe a certain angel? Who knows. It's not like Misha Collins himself hinted at it...

In fact, the whole episode seemed like one big Destiel parallel to the shippers.

"Something about how the very obvious nods this ep made to how Dean died in the finale—the hook on the wall, the vampire, FATE (a la The Trap + Chuck's ending)—all take places in a dungeon-like room with someone banging at the door. [And] with secret love involved," Twitter user CharCubed noted.

The new episode of The Winchesters airs on The CW next Tuesday on February 7th.
