Mark Ruffalo confirms that he will reprise the role of the Hulk on the big screen after a five-year hiatus.

Summary:

  • In recent years, most of the original MCU heroes have been sidelined and replaced with new characters
  • This led to some pretty controversial results, as not all of the newcomers turned out to be particularly interesting
  • However, an original member of The Avengers will finally return to the big screen in Captain America: Brave New World

Although Deadpool & Wolverine is currently at the center of MCU fans' attention after the movie just got its first trailer, another upcoming installment in the franchise has also received a hopeful update.

In recent years, the cinematic universe has shifted its focus to new heroes, relegating the veterans who have been a part of the MCU since its inception to the sidelines, which has led to a significant amount of criticism.

Many fans simply didn't find the newcomers particularly interesting, which, along with other factors, led to rather underwhelming box office returns.

The success of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which was the final chapter in the adventures of the beloved superhero team and managed to become the highest grossing MCU film of 2023, only further proves this point.

The Hulk Finally Returns To The Spotlight

But it seems that the company has learned its lesson, as a new update suggests that we may see more of the original heroes return to the big screen, starting with Mark Ruffalo 's Bruce Banner.

During his recent appearance at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Ruffalo stated that he will reprise his role as the green giant in Captain America: Brave New World, which will be the next MCU film after the third Deadpool movie.

This doesn't come as much of a surprise to some fans, considering that Samuel Sterns aka The Leader, portrayed once again by Tim Blake Nelson, was also previously confirmed to appear in the film.

Sterns made his MCU debut back in 2008 in The Incredible Hulk, although at the time the green superhero was portrayed by Edward Norton, so it will be interesting to see if Ruffalo brings a new flavor to their interactions.

The Hiatus Took 5 Years

Speaking of Ruffalo, while the actor never officially retired from the MCU, we haven't seen him on the big screen in nearly five years, as he's only starred in the TV shows She-Hulk and What If...? season 2 since 2019's Avengers: Endgame.

After years on the sidelines, fans are hoping the upcoming movie will do the character justice and show how much he's changed since the big standoff with Thanos that almost cost him his arm.

Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled for release on February 14, 2025.
