The newly released trailer of Criminal Minds: Evolution shows that season 16 might be even better than the original series.

Paramount+ Criminal Minds reboot trailer garnered exceptionally positive reviews from long-term Criminal Minds fans. Despite the majority of the cast returning, the reboot is shaping up to be something totally different and unique in contrast to other remakes produced in recent years.

One common mistake many reboots make is that they rarely change anything at all. Usually, a slightly modernized plot shows the same characters in the same situations communicating and joking just like they did in the canon. This often leads to the reboots failing to reach the level of popularity once achieved by the original, which is paradoxical considering the majority of reboots are based on a purely financial decision to make more money from a once popular movie or show, not create something different and unique.

The creators of reboots often feel limited by a high-rating original, the fans of which should not be disappointed at any cost, even if it means changing nothing. Criminal Minds: Evolution seems to go the other way.

The changes begin with the new form of storytelling. All ten episodes of Evolution will revolve around one extra-difficult case instead of several cases as it was in the original show. This alone will give the creators more opportunities to develop the plot slowly and the BAU team more time to struggle with a case and reveal the new facets of their characters.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Looks Like a Completely Different Show So Far

Besides, this will give time to develop the character of the main unsub played by Zach Gilford. The case will involve a serial killer network Gilford's character created during the COVID-19 pandemic break. Fans write in the comments that they don't mind the format being changed since the premise sounds so cool.

"The OG Criminal Minds was like this friendly neighborhood show, but THIS looks like an Oscar-worthy thriller," one fan commented under the video.

The transition from television to a streaming service has also served as a good push in the right direction. The creators were finally able to go wild without network restrictions, and the trailer shows they did. Fans pointed out in the comments that the quality of graphics has improved, and the story looks much darker than any case the BAU team tackled before. Excited viewers also noticed elements of horror and a grittier tone, which made them wait for the premiere of season 16 even more anxiously.
