In other words, Marvel wasted the perfect opportunity to avoid the Majors controversy before it even happened.

Summary:

  • The MCU is currently dealing with the Jonathan Majors controversy which could have well been avoided.
  • In 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the initial idea was to introduce Doctor Doom into the MCU.
  • With Doom as the primary antagonist, the Cinematic Universe would have been better off, especially since fans have been awaiting him for years.

Unlike the comics, the MCU is very much limited in terms of its character roster. The Cinematic Universe has been around for ages, and some iconic heroes and villains are still in the long waiting queue for appearing on the big screen some day. Doctor Doom is definitely one antagonist many Marvel fans have been demanding for years.

There were rumors of him joining the MCU recently; but apparently, Doctor Doom almost became part of the Cinematic Universe back in 2022 alongside Strange.

Doctor Strange Could Introduce His Colleague

Medical professionals* are often acquainted with each other, and who would have been better to introduce Doctor Doom than his “colleague,” Doctor Strange? Apparently, that’s not just a gag: back in the day, that was the plan. One of Marvel’s most terrifying villains was supposed to debut in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

At least, that’s what famous industry Alex Perez implied in his recent revelation. “Not gonna lie… Doctor Doom as part of the Illuminati in Multiverse of Madness would have slapped,” Perez wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account. When shocked fans asked him whether that was the initial idea, the insider simply replied, “Yup.”

*Yes, we are aware that Doctor Doom never earned his doctorate. How about you try and tell him personally? He’d really appreciate the input, don’t you even worry.

Cutting Doctor Doom Was a Poor Choice

At the time, Doctor Doom’s debut in Doctor Strange 2 was just one of the many options — but today, in hindsight, they really should have gone with it. The sheer magnitude of this villain would have likely made him the new Big Bad for the MCU, and the Kang storyline would not have existed at all, preventing several problems.

For one, the MCU wouldn’t have been stuck with Jonathan Majors, the Kang actor who can’t be fired due to his contract but also can’t really star in the upcoming movie due to his controversial trials. But everyone’s much smarter in hindsight; making the right call momentarily is much harder. Still, it would have been nice to see Doctor Doom.
