This one is like trouble in paradise.

It’s impossible for the show that lasted for 15 years to always be as good as new. As any series, Supernatural has its ups and downs, and it’s quite obvious that fans will prefer some seasons to the others.

But despite the fandom disagreeing on which season (from the first ones of course) is the best, there is a pretty common opinion on the worst ever chapter. Turns out, the majority of fans absolutely hate season 12.

Reddit users took a lot of time and effort to carefully list the reasons why it was the worst. Ironically, the most obvious reason is that the showrunners should have stopped production at some point after season 5 or at least 9, leaving fans begging for more (instead, they were begging to stop).

So what is it about season 12 that makes fans seethe? For starters, it tried to do so many things at once – only to fail miserably almost at everything.

The season features the Winchesters on the hunt for Lucifer, as usual, but this time the writers decided to spice things up and even… made him a father. As appealing as it sounds, his son Jack kind of took the place of one fan favorite character (Crowley), and got another fave, Castiel, seriously sidelined.

Another Armageddon-sized issue fans have with season 12 was the return of Mary Winchester, Sam and Dean's mother, whose death is the catalyst for much of the show's early run. And nothing could have been worse than her comeback.

“Mary is literally the worst character the show has ever had – they ruined all 11 years of build up for her, they ruined Dean’s last memories of a good parent, they just ruined her and I rarely watch any episode she is in because she is awful. I am with Dean when he tells Mary he hates her,” Redditor jamie799 said.

Fans see season 12 as just a dull transition between the interesting stories the show had to offer. For those who haven't seen the show, you can watch it and make up your own mind. And for those who are on their 20th rewatch… maybe just ignore it altogether as if it never existed.
