Both share one major plot detail.

Summary:

  • A comedy with some supernatural tints, Not Dead Yet has had its successful run for 2 seasons so far since 2023.
  • Even though the show’s idea seems to be something completely new, one major plot twist has already appeared in another famous series.
  • Not Dead Yet follows a young woman lost in her life after she gets a job which boils to writing obituaries — but then she finds out about her ability to see ghosts.

The same idea has already been a crucial part of another supernatural show from the 2000s, and many fans think it’s a big opportunity for a crossover.

Thanks to its compelling yet comedy-oriented plot, Not Dead Yet revives a good old cinematic tradition to push the real world and the beyond together in all the forms possible.

Though the show’s approach may be entirely renovated for the modern audience, the idea is in fact not — and some fans think that it may be a good reason for the Not Dead Yet plot diving into another story with a similar zest.

Not Dead Yet stars Gina Rodriguez as Nell Serrano whose dream of becoming a famous writer seems shattered by the reality where she calls off her wedding with a long-time boyfriend, comes back to Los Angeles after living in London for a long time and ends up writing obituaries.

The character gets to realize that she’s doomed to having a life full of monotonous days writing only about death when she suddenly starts seeing ghosts.

The show initially kicked it off back in 2023 and fans were quick to catch some subtle parallels with other famous shows that seemingly don’t have anything to do with Not Dead Yet.

Thus, one user posted their thoughts on Reddit saying that Not Dead Yet is a kind of renewed comic version of the 2005 supernatural show Ghost Whisperer starring Jennifer Love Hewitt — but the latter’s story forms a much tighter bond with the other world.

What Was Ghost Whisperer About?

Ghost Whisperer indeed follows young woman Melinda Gordon who has an ability to see ghosts and, what’s more, to even talk to them. Though she tends to stick to her normal life as much as possible, Melinda still can’t restrain herself from bailing the ghosts out when they’re in need of something or trying to establish amicable relationships with those who see a menace in her at first.

On top of that, Melinda seems to find more comfort in the phantoms’ company rather than in a human one as people push the character away as soon as they hear about her supernatural gift.

The post on Reddit thus suggested that Ghost Whisperer’s implementation in Not Dead Yet, be it something big or not, would have all the potential to become a great crossover for two distinct shows that share one and only plot twist.

The user also admitted that both series have a different approach to the ability that the main characters have to handle, but this could turn into an even more intriguing twist rather than something that completely sets them apart.
