Why cancel what everybody loves?

Summary:

  • Taylor Sheridan ’s 1883 never got season 2.
  • HBO decided to cancel Deadwood because it was too expensive.
  • Deadwood is one of the streamer's most critically acclaimed series ever.

When a show becomes successful, there’s almost always the chance that it will have a spinoff.

In the case of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, even several of them. Remember 1883 and 1923. Well, while 1923 was greenlit for another season, the first one never got renewed.

The thing is, the show was never intended to be a multiple season series, and even the fact that it turned out to be a hit never changed Sheridan’s decision of keeping the story brief.

However, if this particular show’s cancellation is now understandable, the fans are still angry about another perfect western being killed off. The show we are talking about is HBO’s popular series called Deadwood that was released in 2004.

If you have never heard of it, we doubt that you are a true Western fan, but if you feel like you are one, then tune in and be prepared for the most emotional roller coaster of your life to start.

As the name suggests, the series is set in the town of Deadwood, South Dakota, in the weeks following the Custer Massacre. The place is a real lawless sinkhole of crime and corruption.

At the center of the story are several men with different agendas whose lives begin to intertwine in so many ways...

Deadwood is one of HBO's most acclaimed shows ever. The action-packed show with so many heroes and villains quickly became a hit when it aired. However, the show was canceled after season 3 and was never renewed.

The fans were so disappointed to hear that it was canceled, but the reason just killed them. Apparently, the show was too expensive to keep.

“It was a victim of HBO recoiling from the high production costs and not yet having realized how much money the show would recoup from DVD sales. Critical acclaim is great and it can justify keeping relatively cheap shows like The Leftovers on air, but it doesn't do much good for super expensive shows,” Redditor slowriot5 said.

Unfortunately, the fans will never see how the never-ending battles were to be solved. But if you still feel like giving this perfect western a chance, you can stream it on Hulu.
