For John Bradley, House of the Dragon’s main difference from Game of Thrones is off-putting — so he’s been putting off watching it for ages now.

Summary:

  • House of the Dragon is a Targaryen-centered prequel to Game of Thrones that takes place decades before the original show.
  • GoT John Bradley admits he hasn’t watched HotD yet as its smaller scope makes the prequel off-putting for him.
  • House of the Dragon Season 2 is set for a June 2024 premiere, featuring new characters and dragons.

Love it or hate it, Game of Thrones was huge. It’s still huge to this day, which is quite an achievement for a TV show that ended five years ago in the age of endless content. New shows come and go, but Benioff and Weiss’ notorious masterpiece is still standing strong — and its younger brother House of the Dragon took after it.

However, HotD feels rather different from its mighty predecessor, and that puts off many people. Even some Game of Thrones stars still haven’t given it a proper shot.

In Game of Thrones, John Bradley’s Samwell Tarly proved to be one of the most tenacious characters: he stayed around for the entirety of this eight-season show. Thanks to his being one of the central characters, Bradley knows a thing or two about Game of Thrones — and can easily spot the off-putting difference between it and House of the Dragon.

“It feels like a bit of a different show, I have to say. Game of Thrones had so many characters in it spanning all across the Seven Kingdoms. There was much more scope for all of humanity to exist there. <...> House of the Dragon feels more focused on one particular area of the narrative, and one particular area of humanity. So, it just feels like there’s slightly less scope to it,” the actor told New York Post.

Bradley admitted that he hadn’t watched House of the Dragon yet, but he had plans to because “everybody he had spoken to loved it.”

House of the Dragon Season 2 to Arrive Soon

So far, House of the Dragon has only one season, but that won’t last for much longer: while we don’t know the exact date, Season 2 is set to premiere in June 2024. In the upcoming series, the notorious Dance of the Dragons will finally ensue, plotting the two branches of House Targaryen against each other in a brutal civil war.

We’ve already covered which iconic character will debut in House of the Dragon Season 2 and which dragons will join the roster in the new series.
