He claims that the overwhelming amount of sexual scenes took away from the storytelling.

Ciarán Hinds is a veteran actor who has made countless appearances on both the big screen and television.

But one of his most memorable roles came in Game of Thrones, the world famous fantasy drama television series based on a book series by George R. R. Martin, where he portrayed Mance Rayder, also known as King-beyond-the-Wall, the leader of the Free Folk and a worthy opponent to the Night's Watch, in which he used to serve as a black brother.

He appeared in the show's third season and lasted until the fifth, earning the love of the show's fans for his memorable performance.

However, it seems that he had some problems with the show during his involvement. He recently revealed that he wasn't thrilled with the amount of sex scenes in the fantasy series.

"I was rather put off by the amount of sexuality that was going on in it, because it was taking away from the actual political storytelling. But that's business, I guess, from their perspective," Ciarán said in an interview with The Independent.

The fans were quite surprised by this revelation. Although they admire his talent, people think that he might be exaggerating.

The series indeed relied (sometimes too much) on shock value, but it only added to its fame. Unexpected bloody deaths and sexual scenes became an essential part of it, almost synonymous with the name Game of Thrones, and many of them were taken directly from the source material.

They added to the plot, not detracted from it.

"There was sex, sure. But there wasn't so much they didn't have time for the rest. The final season was too short, but that had zero to do with sex," Reddit user BigMax said.

Nevertheless, some people tend to agree with the actor's point of view. They say that the amount of rape actually made them stop watching the show because it made them feel uncomfortable.

But they admit that it is just their personal opinion that might be unpopular. Fans also say it sounds rather hypocritical considering the other projects he has been involved in.

As Reddit user pervy_roomba pointed out:

"Wait, wasn't he in Rome? Pretty sure he had plenty of sex scenes in that, sometimes with a woman significantly younger than him. Strangely, he didn't seem to have a problem with it then…"

Anyway, after more than forty years of acting career it is safe to say that the actor can have whatever opinion he wants about the projects he took part in.

It was recently announced that Hinds will be joining the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2, but the details of his role remain under wraps for now.
