Pedal to the Metal — But Logic Took a Dive: Why I Found 'Formula 1' with Brad Pitt a Bit of a Letdown

Exciting visuals, but predictable plot and shallow characters hold it back.
I went into Formula 1 with high hopes. Brad Pitt behind the wheel, intense racing scenes, and that classic underdog story — it seemed like a winning formula. Visually, the film does not disappoint.
The camera work puts you right inside the cockpit, making every twist and turn pulse with adrenaline. And Pitt in his racing gear? Absolutely convincing.
But as the story unfolded, it started to feel all too familiar. The rookie driver fits the usual mold — wide-eyed and inexperienced — while Sonny Hayes plays the grizzled veteran with charm and rebellion. The plot moves predictably, and the ending was no surprise.
Fans have voiced similar frustrations: the racing lacks authenticity, the characters don’t have much depth, and the storyline sticks to well-worn clichés. And I have to agree.
I was hoping for something gritty and true to the real Formula 1 world, but what I got felt more like glossy Hollywood drama. It’s entertaining and slick, but it doesn’t quite capture the complexity or excitement of the sport.
That said, if you’re looking for Brad Pitt and some breathtaking cinematography, it’s definitely worth a watch. Just don’t expect a groundbreaking story.
