Gene Hackman’s 1986 Beloved Sports Drama Is Now Streaming on Prime Video

Regarded as one of the best sports movies ever made, the film also received 2 nods from the Academy back in the day.
Despite staying in retirement for the past couple of decades, Gene Hackman has remained one of Hollywood’s most renowned actors of all time with numerous accolades and two Oscar statuettes under his belt.
Hackman died several weeks ago at the age of 95, and his acclaimed movies from many years ago keep resurfacing on digital platforms in the wake of Hackman’s tragic passing as some sort of his fans’ attempt to pay homage to the late actor.
However, some of those flicks even manage to find new streaming homes decades after their theatrical release, and one of them has recently debuted on Prime Video.

The movie that has been sought out in the recent weeks, Hoosiers has now finally made its way to streaming as, apparently, Prime Video heard its viewers’ prayers.
The movie is loosely inspired by the story of the 1954 Indiana state champions Milan High School and follows Hackman’s Norman Dale, a failed college coach granted a second chance when he’s asked to direct the basketball program at a high school in a tiny Indiana town.
Dale’s mission becomes complicated to achieve when the team’s star player quits in an attempt to focus more on his studies; additionally, the coach himself gets a constant backlash in regard to his temper and the choice of an assistant, notorious alcoholic Shooter.
Decades Later, Hoosiers Is Gene Hackman’s Most Beloved Movie
It’s not hard to imagine why Hoosiers was the film the actor’s fans have kept looking for all across streaming platforms in the past several weeks.
Released all the way back in 1986, Hoosiers quickly turned into a heartwarming cult classic, later on becoming a critical darling and a major box office success. The movie grossed more than $28 million worldwide with a budget of $6 million and received numerous accolades, including 2 Oscar nominations for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Original Score.
Despite not winning in none of the categories, Hoosiers has remained a memorable drama that gets even better with every new rewatch. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds scores of 91% and 88% from critics and audiences respectively.
