What changed though?

Loyalty is the only thing that keeps soap operas alive. The perfect example is of course one of the longest-running soaps on American TV – General Hospital. The series has been on air for more than 60 years, yet still it keeps attracting more and more viewers each day. Is there any secret?

Well, maybe it's just that there are so many characters out there that every type of viewer can relate to at least one of them, that's for sure. And as for the rest – nothing is better than a good old soap opera when it comes to depicting ridiculous characters and unrealistic plots.

Of course, over time, the show goes through some changes in the cast and the entire creative team. And these moments are crucial for the show, because that's when the fans decide if they're going to stick with it or drop the soap opera.

Recently General Hospital head writers have changed, and now the fans are finally starting to notice it. And frankly, they are not too happy with whatever they see now.

“Instead of building on the existing characters and storylines, they seem to be rewriting history and making most of the characters very unlikeable. It's frustrating to see beloved characters suddenly acting out of character and storylines that make zero sense,” Redditor Street-Replacement89 said.

For example, fans do not like the fact that their beloved characters change 180 degrees. Like when it comes to Anna and Laura. The thing is, Sonny has been there for them many times in the past, and now they just jumped to the other side and want to see him in prison. What the heck?

Is There a Way for General Hospital to Still Be Exciting?

However, some fans are not so much against the new writers, they think they still have some time to get used to the show and find out what the audience wants to see more of. And they are already making progress, for example, if we take the same Sonny – the interesting twist was the one with his mental state. Quite intriguing!

Well, maybe we have to give them credit for trying for now, and later they will surprise us with some outstanding new storylines?

General Hospital is available to stream on Hulu.
