We've just learned that Amazon is seeking to acquire rights to Warhammer 40K to have it adapted as a series starring Henry Cavill, who is a Warhammer fan. It is yet another iconic game Amazon has laid its hands upon. It has also been reported by Variety that an adaptation of PlayStation's hit video game franchise God of War was ordered to series at Prime Video.

Amazon with its enormous resources seems to have an appetite for all things popular.

The show will tell the story of "Kratos, the God of War, who, after exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard. When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son to spread her ashes from the highest peak — his wife's final wish. Kratos soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son, and force Kratos to battle new Gods and monsters for the fate of the world," the Amazon press release reads. Rafe Judkins is to become the God of War showrunner.

It is interesting what will come out of this plan. Amazon's recent attempt to capitalize on Tolkien's heritage can hardly be called a success. Although The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was praised for its quality with some critics going as far as saying that it is a cinematic masterpiece, the series came under heavy fire from the author's fans. They accused the show of having little in common with the actual books; the criticism was so strong that Amazon banned users from posting their reviews on the streamer's landing page once the series was released. One may argue that he games are not books by renowned authors and in this sense they are less problematic but the fans would most likely disagree.

Redditors are furious that Amazon wants to make the series especially after they ruined LOTR. They say that they do not trust the streaming service and are unhappy with the Judkins showrunning the series. It was him who messed up Wheel of Time, and they wonder how the man managed to get another project of such a scale.

Some gamers gave their reasons for why they don't like the idea saying that "We do not need this. The game is basically live action since the graphics are so good. They definitely won't capture the same vibe. I just don't see it working." Others were just aggressive and straightforward, with one redditor suggesting that "the show will probably be so cringe that balls will turn inside out."

Then a Witcher fan shared what one should not expect from the series. "I am here to warn all God of War fans – don't expect this to be good. Or at the very least, don't expect this to be anything like you imagined."

There are certain ways the adaptation could go wrong, and one of them is adapting a 2018 version of the game.

"They're definitely going to adapt the 2018 game without any of the weight and context of the first 3 games. I imagine they'll explain all of Kratos' backstory in a 10 min flashback and that's about it," one of the Redditors suggested.
