They believe that a long-awaited storyline is finally about to happen.

The first season of Good Omens, a fantasy comedy TV series based on the novel of the same name by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, was an instant success, making the show's renewal for a second season a done deal.

The only problem was that season 1 fully covered the events of the book, and with Pratchett's tragic death in 2015, there was no chance of a sequel.

However, Neil Gaiman, who was involved in the adaptation of their work, decided to write the story for the second season, relying on their unused ideas.

And finally, Amazon released the first trailer for the highly anticipated season, which received overwhelming praise from fans. Moreover, one particular line in it seems to be of particular interest to many of them.

Continuing the adventures of the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, the trailer shows that the archangel Gabriel disappeared from heaven and somehow ended up on earth, suddenly appearing in Aziraphale's bookstore.

Over a cup of tea, he asks his fellow angel if he knows "what it's like when you don't know anything, and yet you're totally certain that everything would be better if you were just near one particular person."

And a shot of Aziraphale and Crowley clinking glasses, along with the former's embarrassed reaction to the question, led some fans to believe that a long-awaited storyline is finally happening.

During their interactions throughout the first season, many viewers got the feeling that the two might be a little more than just best friends, even if they didn't realize it at the time.

Even the show's creators added a joke that hinted at this when, after a heated public argument in the middle of the street, the two part ways and Aziraphale is approached by a (supposedly) gay man who assures the angel that "he's been there" and that he's "better off without him."

So, after all the hints and chemistry that has been going on between the two, fans believe that this is a logical next step in Aziraphale and Crowley's relationship, which has been a head canon for many viewers for a while now.

Whether this is true or just another joke by the creators, fans will have to wait a little longer to find out.

While it seems logical and could allow for more interesting character developments, not all viewers might appreciate it, especially the more conservative ones.

Besides, the whole "unspoken love" between the two has a special charm, so it is a hard choice for the creators and a huge milestone for the series (which might just be renewed for season 3).

Good Omens season 2 will be released on July 28, 2023.
