Stranger Things fans are on the edge of their seats as the fifth and final season approaches.

The popular Netflix series has been a hit since its debut and has launched its young cast into stardom. With the confirmation that season 5 will be the last, fans are speculating on what the Duffer brothers have in store for the epic finale.

One theory that's been making the rounds on Reddit and TikTok is a disheartening one that predicts a rather tragic ending for Eleven.

According to the theory, Eleven will have to sacrifice herself in order to save Hawkins and her friends from Vecna – which is, come to think of it, a very real possibility.

In order to close the opening to the Upside Down from the inside, Eleven will have to manipulate time and rewind to the day it all began – the same day Will disappeared. References to time travel and the concept of time have been prevalent in the show, and Eleven has had to deal with breaches to the Upside Down in each season.

The fan theory predicts that there will be a confrontation between Vecna and Eleven, and the series' Big Bad will send her to exist sorely in the Upside Down, just as she did to him. Eleven will manipulate time and send Will back to the day he disappeared, to the scene where everyone is playing Dungeons and Dragons.

She will make sure Will returns home safely and the series will end with Eleven wiping the blood from her nose.

Feeling uneasy yet? There's more.

While this is just a theory, it fits with everything the series has shown us and Eleven's character as the ultimate heroine. The Duffer brothers have already revealed that there will be a time jump, but have not specified whether it will be to the future or the past. With the show's references to time travel and the statement that everything "started with Will and will end with Will," this theory certainly holds some weight.
