Hands Off Hellboy: Fans Already Hate The Upcoming Reboot
A new attempt in dragging Hellboy to big screen is underway.
First two movies were directed by Guillermo del Toro ( 2004, 2008), starring Ron Perlman as the eponymous hero. Those movies were followed by a Neil Marshall's 2019 reboot, with David Harbour in the leading role.
A few years ago, reports about a new Hellboy movie would have caused a storm of enthusiasm among genre fans. But those times are over.
This announcement caused skepticism. Too much has gone wrong in the franchise, and having it rebooted for the second time in several years doesn't fly well with the fans.
"Can someone please explain to me why they keep trying to reboot Hellboy? The first two movies, even though at least the second is a beloved cult classic, weren't exactly financial smashes and the reboot was god-awful and didn't do well," Redditor harlandsneer questions the matter at hand.
New attempt on the franchise is officially known now as Hellboy: The Crooked Man. It is presumed to show us a younger version of Hellboy, portrayed by Jack Kesy, an actor without much profile.
The unpopular 2019 Hellboy reboot tried to reproduce the spirit of Guillermo del Toro's first two films, only to fail massively.
The 2019 feature film, according to fans, "just wasn't well written or directed."
The basic problem is that the fans didn't want a reboot, they wanted a sequel to the original series starring Ron Perlman. In 2009 plans were made for a threequel that was later cancelled due to problems with funding.
It seems like the fans have lost all hope in light of the news about a new reboot happening.
"As a lover of the GDT movies I can't help but view this news as another crushing blow reinforcing that those stories will be forever unfinished," Redditor WearyCorner875 says.
As the new movie is inevitable, fans just want to see a Hellboy that is true to its nature.
"At this point I'm just begging for a movie version of the character that actually somewhat resembles the comic in terms of characterisation," Redditor Aggressive_Dog says.
The upcoming film is set to take place in the Appalachian Mountains in the 1950s, as Hellboy must protect a village haunted by otherworldly creatures. Brian Taylor is attached as director.
It is not yet known when Hellboy: The Crooked Man will hit cinemas.
