Potterheads need to take a chill pill when it comes to one particular Gryffindor girl.

Summary:

  • Lavender Brown is largely hated by fans for her obsessive behavior when she dated Ron Weasley, but she was just a normal teenage girl back then.
  • Lavender has always been nice to people. She supported Professor Trelawney when everyone gave up on her and helped the Golden Trio.
  • Lavender was the original Dumbledore’s Army member who later rejoined it during the Carrow’s reign and actively fought in the Battle of Hogwarts.
  • Throughout the series, Lavender Brown was a genuinely great person, sweet and brave, and she never deserved any of the hate she’s getting.

The Harry Potter series has perhaps the largest fan community in the world, but over the years, Potterheads haven’t learned one thing: no one fits into the classic black and white color scheme. Often, fans malign characters who didn’t deserve it because of the one annoying trait they possessed, and vice versa.

Lavender Brown, Ron’s first girlfriend, is hated and belittled by many Potterheads, but in reality, she was a great person who did nothing but good things in the series.

Lavender Brown Was Nice Since Day One

In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Lavender Brown is one of the very few students who stay with Hagrid to help him with the Screwts. Apart from her, only the Golden Trio, Seamus, and Dean don’t flee to the cabin to hide from the beasts. This shows her early signs of bravery and selflessness worthy of House Gryffindor.

From Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and forth, Lavender finds her favorite subject, Divination, and wholeheartedly supports its largely disregarded professor. In The Order of the Phoenix, she regularly visits Professor Trelawney after the latter was humiliated and fired by Dolores Umbridge to show the teacher that she cares.

Unlike Hermione Granger who, though quite a bookworm, never holds back from ridiculing someone she finds below herself, Lavender Brown never returns the favor. Being a reasonably popular girl, she must find Hermione weird, to say the least — but never does she say a cruel word to her or laughs at her expense even once.

Lavender Brown Was Brave and Selfless

It’s not just the Screwts episode that shows Lavender’s true Gryffindor nature; far from that. Though it’s often overlooked, Lavender Brown was one of the original Dumbledore’s Army members who was eager to learn from Harry Potter. She wanted to be capable of protecting herself and her loved ones and fighting Lord Voldemort.

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Lavender rejoins the Army once again when the Carrows rule over Hogwarts. Together with the other students, she resists the Death Eaters and partakes in the guerilla warfare led by Neville Longbottom. She’s willing to live in the Room of Requirement with dozens of people for the cause.

But Lavender’s ultimate act of bravery is, of course, her active participation in the Battle of Hogwarts. The girl chose to stay in the school and protect it against Voldemort’s attacks, and she almost paid for it with her life when Fenrir Greyback, the terrifying werewolf leader she fought, knocked Lavender on her back to eat her.

Lavender Brown Doesn’t Deserve the Hate

Throughout the entire Harry Potter series, Lavender time and time again proves herself as a decent and brave person. She’s willing to help others and sacrifice her interests and even life for it. She’s kind and supportive to those around her at all times. But most fans somehow hate or disregard her because of her fling with Ron!

Lavender Brown was a teenage girl when she dated Ronald Weasley, and he was her first boyfriend. Her lowkey obsessive behavior was completely normal for someone her age, and — let’s be real here — Ron was an ass to her. Lavender was genuinely one of the nicest people in the Harry Potter series, and she never deserved the attitude many fans are giving her to this day.
