Not the same as it was, surely.

You don't come to Twitter every day to find out that LGBTQ+ community is pissed off with… Harry Styles.

Yes, Harry Styles: the one who rocks dresses on magazine covers, paints his nails, enthusiastically flies pride flags on stage – he seems to be under fire due to what some fans deem to be a controversial stance on his own sexuality and the extent he supports other queer people.

The social media storm began when Harry Styles shared with Indie Wire his thoughts on his upcoming movie 'My Policeman' and the way it handles lovemaking scenes.

"So much of gay sex in film is two guys going at it, and it kind of removes the tenderness from it," was the line by Styles that particularly irked fans – and even some major brands.

When Styles said that "everyone, including myself, has your own journey with figuring out sexuality and getting more comfortable with it", all hell broke loose. People turned out to have a problem with the singer being all but completely open about his sexuality. Styles prefers to be ambiguous about it; while addressing the topic in his songs and being pretty audacious and daring when it comes to his performances and looks, he would never put a label on himself.

Some of his fans take issue with that. Most recently, he has been in hot water because he "has only publicly been with women".

"[…] I don't think I've publicly been with anyone," Styles has responded after facing yet another wave of social media criticism. "If someone takes a picture of you with someone, it doesn't mean you're choosing to have a public relationship or something."

"The way that people treat Shawn Mendes and Harry Styles are so weird because Shawn has told y'all so many times that he's straight and y'all refuse to believe him and when Harry says that his sexuality is his. Y'all are quick to call him a queerbaiter. Don't get me started on." – @hrryycinema

At the same time, ironically, Harry Styles is one of the LGBTQ+ icons and faces criticism from many conservatives because of his bold looks, unique fashion sense, and that very sexual ambiguity that irritates some of his fans.

His most recent album, 'Harry's House', is one of the most successful in his solo music career. However, he is also actively pursuing a career in the movie industry. 'My Policeman' is set to premiere on October 21, 2022.
