Walker, starring Jared Padalecki of Supernatural, has done well enough for the creative team to develop a spin-off series.

The prequel is being produced and showrunned by the same team, including Anna Fricke as creator/producer and Padalecki as executive producer. It will be aired on the CW just like Walker. But as fans gear up to see the prequel this fall, there is one question on everyone's mind; where is Walker: Independence filmed? There are some speculations of it being filmed in Texas with the original Walker series, but that can't be the case. Here's why:

The new CW studio series, Walker: Independence, is set in the late 1800s and is centered around Abby Walker, a wealthy Bostonian who suffers from the tragic murder of her husband while on their journey out west. Abby is determined to seek revenge, and her quest takes her to Independence, Texas, where she crosses paths with Hoyt Rawlins. The town has fascinating and diverse residents with troubled pasts who have run from their previous lives to chase their dreams. But nothing is what it seems; the trailer keeps the excitement alive by not giving away the details.

But we can still figure out the crucial facts; the first one is the timeline; the late 1800s tells us that it is a prequel, which means crossovers aren't possible unless the characters have flashforwards or play ancestor versions of themselves. It may be slightly tricky to work such scenes into the story; after all, it isn't a story of magic or the supernatural.

The filming locations confirm our hypothesis; while Walker is filmed in Texas, the prequel is not. With roughly 14 new Mexico-based actors, 275 New Mexican crew members, and 3,500 residents as background talent, the prequel spin-off was filmed in New Mexico. How do we know this, you ask? Well, the New Mexico State Film Office Director confirmed that the prequel began its principal photography in July, in and around Santa Fe.

The two shows may be filmed in different locations, but we can still find many connections with the original series. Hoyt Rawlins is played by Matt Barr, an ancestor of the character with the same name he played in Walker's season 1. Abby Walker is also related to Cordell, Liam, and the others, but at this point, no one knows how that is precisely. Guess we have to wait until October 6th to find out!
