The only propaganda we stand for.

Summary:

  • House of the Dragon is the prequel to another HBO hit, Game of Thrones, based on another novel by George R. R. Martin.
  • Matt Smith portrays the Targaryen Prince Daemon in the series.
  • When asked by a fan which house he'd support in the Game of Thrones universe, he declared loyalty to the Targaryens.

If you were a part of the Game of Thrones fandom when the show came out, you remember the heated discussions about which house deserved the Iron Throne and the title of King of Westeros. Everyone supported their personal favorites, and such devotion often led to many arguments online.

House of the Dragon is no different. Even though the show now focuses on the origins of one family in particular, the Targaryens, and tells the story of Daenerys' predecessors, there are still conflicts. And where there is conflict, there is always an opportunity for viewers to divide into teams and support their favorites.

The only thing is, the devotion has to be mutual. Fortunately for fans of the Targaryens in general, and Team Black in particular, Prince Daemon Targaryen himself has been quite outspoken about which side he is on.

Matt Smith Is Team Black, Confirmed

It's not too surprising to find out, considering the bond each actor has to form with their character to better understand and portray them, but Matt Smith seems to be a hardcore House Targaryen and Team Black supporter. At least that is what he said at LA Comic Con on Saturday, December 2.

When asked what family he would want to be a part of in the Game of Thrones universe if the Targaryens weren't an option, Smith was pretty sure of his answer:

“I can’t possibly answer that, I couldn’t be anything but a Targaryen. There’s only one family to be involved, really. Who wants to be a Stark? Targaryens, man. We’ve got dragons and blonde hair, what else could it be? That’s the same for the Greens and the Blacks. No, no, no, there’s only one side to be on,” he said, jokingly.

While the convention was all fun and games, the House of the Dragon on-screen universe promises much more tension between the two teams. In a recently released first trailer for season 2, fans got their first look at the season's events and the beginning of the war between two branches of the Targaryen family.

So no matter which team you find yourself on, get ready for plenty of emotion and devastating battles as House of The Dragon premieres on HBO in the summer of 2024. Until then, you can always relive your memories of season 1 on Max.
