The project is based on the cult book "Neuromancer".

Since its release in 1999, The Matrix has been a benchmark for cyberpunk, combining philosophical depth, dystopian futurism, and stunning visual aesthetics. Few have managed to replicate its signature balance in the decades since. That could all change with Apple TV+’s upcoming Neuromancer, a series based on William Gibson’s novel of the same name that essentially defined the genre.

Neuromancer Plot

Gibson’s Neuromancer is no ordinary sci-fi. A founding text of cyberpunk, the novel introduced readers to “cyberspace” before the internet as we know it existed, and gave us archetypes like the rogue hacker and the corporate dystopia.

Its plot revolves around Case, a disgraced hacker forced to survive in a dystopian future underground ruled by megacorporations, artificial intelligence, and digital espionage. Alongside him is Molly, a street-wise assassin with blades in her fingers and mirrored lenses for eyes, who became an icon of the genre long before Trinity from The Matrix.

Neuromancer Series

The hacker Case project will get ten episodes on Apple TV+, with Amazon's Jack Ryan co-creator Graham Roland working on them. The streaming service has already invested in ambitious projects like For All Mankind, Shelter, and Foundation, proving that audiences are ready for complex worlds.

The upcoming series has all the ingredients to become the next Matrix: strong source material, complex characters, relevant themes, and a cultural moment when humanity is rethinking its relationship with technology. The cast and release date are unknown.
