It's safe to assume that young Aegon has probably graced this show with its most cringeworthy scene.

House of the Dragon is not exactly the safest show to turn on when you try to enjoy your dinner, because characters can occasionally get slaughtered or, you know, enjoy their foot fetish out of the blue.

One of the most uncomfortable scenes to watch was when young Aegon touched himself while standing naked in an open window, apparently not bothering to think about the people who could have been passing by down there. The scene is still haunting a lot of House of the Dragon fans, and many people wonder why it was even included in the show.

Well, it actually makes perfect sense if you think about it. The scene is undoubtedly borderline disgusting to watch, but it is really important as a means of showing the viewer who Aegon is as a character.

"It very efficiently establishes that Aegon is a dumb, horny teenager, makes for an interesting and memorable character introduction, and adds a bit of discomfort and tension to the following convo with his mom," Redditor verendus3 explained, referring to how Alicent walks in on him a second later.

The most awkward and horrifying thing about it is that this very teenager grows into the future Westerosi king, even though Aegon made it clear several times that he never wanted this to happen.

Daemyra May Be the Best HotD Team, But The Relationship is Still Toxic

But it also described perfectly how unhealthy the Greens' family actually is. Alicent does not seem overly surprised to see his son behaving like that; clearly, it might not even be the first time she walks in on Aegon in some sort of a compromising position. Besides, she obviously could not care less about his privacy or actual desires.

Even when Aegon tries to explain to his mother that he does not see himself as king, she dismissed it and still pushes him to become someone she wants to see.

So, despite the scene being one of the show's weirdest, it is important for Aegon and introduces us to his character in the most Game of Thrones- and House of the Dragon- style possible.
