But then again, what else is new?

After the much talked about premiere of episode 7, HBO has unveiled a promo for the upcoming episode 8. The trailer hinted that Sea Serpent, played by Steve Toussaint, may die in the new episode.

The newest promo revealed that Lord Corlys Velaryon – aka Sea Snake – will be seriously injured in the War for the Stepstones. If the character indeed dies, a tense struggle for power in Driftmark will ensue, in which his brother Waymond (Wil Johnson) will surely take part.

In the book Fire & Blood by George R. R. R. Martin, on which the series is based, Corlys does not die in this particular time period. Moreover, Sea Snake plays an important role in the Dance of the Dragons, a civil war that has yet to be shown in the House of the Dragon series. It is unlikely that the House of the Dragon writers decided to drastically change Corlys' story by killing him off so early.

The promo for episode 8 also made it clear that Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) will not be able to rule Westeros for a while due to his health rapidly deteriorating. The Iron Throne will be taken by Otto Hightower (Rhys Evans), who will be addressing the affairs of the kingdom while Viserys is absent. This turn of events will alarm the heir to the Iron Throne, Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy), and her allies. Still, Otto is interested in ensuring that Viserys' eventual successor is Prince Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) – the son of Otto's daughter, Queen Alicent (Olivia Cooke).

Episode 8 of House of the Dragon will premiere on October 10, and the final 10th episode of the season will be released on October 24. Meanwhile season 2 of House of the Dragon has already been confirmed by HBO, with no particular release date set as of yet. So far the show managed to exceed all fans' expectations, being praise as one of the best TV shows ever made, and being realistic, immersive and suspenseful, makes a pretty worthy companion to the original masterpiece Game of Thrones was.
