Is Henry Cavill the only one who plays his shows’ source games before acting?..

Summary:

  • Prime Video is developing a TV show adaptation of the Fallout video game series.
  • Aaron Moten, the Maximus actor, revealed that he never “got into” the Fallout games.
  • Ella Purnell, the Lucy star, opted for watching others play Fallout after realizing she was bad at the game.

For the past few years, we’ve been witnessing a historical turn in cinema: after a few decades of terrible attempts, video game adaptations finally started getting good. Some of the most iconic franchises are getting their live-action versions these days, including the ever-so-popular Fallout series. The first look at Prime Video’s upcoming TV show satisfied fans, but there’s a slight catch to it, nonetheless.

Fallout the TV Show’s stars are seemingly pretty clueless about the source material.

Maximus Star Has Never Played Fallout

Even before its premiere, Prime Video’s upcoming series is getting quite a bit of attention: the Fallout video games have been popular for decades, and there’s a large fan base out there waiting for the live-action adaptation. But recently, the show’s stars admitted to something that might really upset the game series’ fans.

“No, I didn't play [the Fallout games]. I knew of them. I roamed the gaming world to some degree, so if you would've shown me a poster of it, I would've been like, ‘I've been seeing Fallout for forever.’ [But] I never got into it,” Aaron Moten, the Maximus actor, revealed when talking to Looper.

He’s not the only one, too.

Lucy Actress Didn’t Get Far in Fallout

Moten's main co-star, Ella Purnell who portrays Lucy in the upcoming series, also hasn’t had much experience in the Fallout world. Though, she’s arguably putting in much more effort: while she’s not good at video games, she watches others play to get the feel for the in-game world and understand what’s going on there.

“I tried playing Fallout 4, actually. I didn't get very far. I had a problem with a dog. I couldn't leave the dog at the gas station. It's a whole thing… I'm not good at the games. Oh, yeah. I'm on level two, baby. But I just spent a lot of time watching other people play the games, which I really enjoyed,” the Lucy actress admitted.

Generally, we’d go on a bit of a rant about how important it is to indulge in the source material, especially when it comes to books and video games, these guys are getting a solid pass from us. Both Aaron Moten and Ella Purnell will portray completely original characters in the upcoming TV show, and they can always get a feel for the world in other ways. Being in the Wastelands themselves will definitely help.
