During a Howard Stern interview, the hosts kept making inappropriate comments about Matt LeBlanc, but David Schwimmer kept calmly deflecting them and defending his friend.

Seeing how Friends has always been one of the most popular sitcoms in the world that spanned 10 whole years of air time, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there are hundreds if not thousands of true and made-up stories about what was really happening on the set and behind the scenes. Not all of them are good, though.

One of the best-known facts about the friendship between the six main stars of Friends is that David Schwimmer, the first cast member to rise to fame, insisted that all his fellow co-stars be paid the same amount of money as him. However, this was far from the only way the actor took care of his friends: he also defended them whenever possible.

In 1998, David Schwimmer went on an interview with Howard Stern, and the host was very keen on squeezing a sensation out of him. Stern and his co-host kept making inappropriate comments about Schwimmer’s Friends co-stars and bringing up insulting rumors that were circulating about the actors at the time.

David Schwimmer was having none of that: he calmly deflected all accusations aimed at his co-stars — primarily, Matt LeBlanc — over and over again.

When the hosts brought up a then-popular story about LeBlanc supposedly acting “out of control” with his driver and wanted Schwimmer to confirm this rumor, the actor coldly replied that the entire ordeal was made up by LeBlanc’s hater who even called the Joey actor before the story was released to rub it in his face.

Then, the hosts tried a different angle and started asking whether it was true that Matt was just as dumb as his Friends character. Even though David Schwimmer’s disgust was palpable at that point, he found the composure to calmly object to these accusations and claim that Matt LeBlanc was a “great guy” and not an idiot.

Howard Stern kept poking at other stars, too, but David stood his ground and kept defending his friends against wild speculations that kept coming from the host. Fans loved how Schwimmer carried himself through the interview, with the most popular comment under the video saying, “Seriously, David should get a medal for how he even went through this stupid interview.”
