The actor confirmed that running into exes on set is not that fun.

Summary:

  • Even though it’s hard to believe it, there were some really uncomfortable moments on the set of Friends — with some interesting stories from guest stars included.
  • Tate Donovan, who appeared in six episodes of Friends and who is also Jennifer Aniston ’s ex boyfriend, revealed he’d received the offer from the show’s producers right after he and Jennifer had broken up.
  • The actor also said he’d felt awful on set, but Jennifer didn’t seem to mind his appearing in the series.

Watching Friends, it always seems like there could be literally nothing disturbing on set — but sometimes there was. Tate Donovan, the actor who got to be a guest star for six episodes in one of the Friends’ seasons, recalled that it wasn’t a very pleasant experience for him — mostly given that Jennifer Aniston, who led the cast, was his ex-girlfriend.

The actor revealed in one of his interviews that the initial offer for his appearance on Friends had come from producers “on time” — right after he and Jennifer had broken up.

Before giving his definite answer, Donovan did call Aniston — which, as he remembers, she received as some kind of April Fools Day joke — to ask if she was okay with him being on set with her.

Apparently, the actress didn’t have anything against it — and we probably will never know how she personally felt about being in the same room with her ex for six episodes, but Donovan himself didn’t have a problem with sharing how he felt about it. As the actor said, it was horrible and very tough and the only thing he could remember was getting back to his trailer and weeping.

Though there was still a positive side of the whole awkwardness — Donovan considers his strange reunion with Jennifer on Friends a good acting (and life) experience which he, obviously, would rather not repeat.

The actor also said there’s a weird feeling of catching up with exes at work — it is in fact awkward, but also nice as you get to see someone who you spend so much time with in the past.
