The list is getting daily updates.

Nobody’s safe when it comes to Brian Cox speaking out about the industry and even some other staff that have nothing to do with the cinema. Though the actor’s triumphant show Succession has been over for a while now, Cox has seemingly never left his character (or he was just being himself all that time).

With all the fuss around his harsh words towards Joaquin Phoenix and his horrible performance in Ridley Scott ’s Napoleon, some may have forgotten that it wasn’t the first time Brian Cox was harsh about someone or something — in fact, there’s a whole list of things or people the actor unapologetically hates.

Quentin Tarantino

Brian Cox had quite a lot to say in his 2022 memoir Putting the Rabbit in the Hat — and he didn’t shy away from pointing some fingers at the movie industry’s biggest names. The actor admitted he had never understood the whole hype around Tarantino calling his work “meretricious” and “all surface”.

Cox then specified that he hadn’t stayed in the cinema till the end of Tarantino’s hit Pulp Fiction when it was released back in 1994; neither had he enjoyed one of the director’s most recent movies, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The actor arced his Tarantino-hating paragraph by calling himself “a Tarantino refusenik”.

The word “process”

Yes, Brian Cox’s hatred list is that diverse. Back in 2021, Cox said in one of his interviews that he can’t stand hearing someone call the concentration and the focus that the actor has to acquire to handle the role “process”, but he nonetheless admits that it’s a common pattern that he can’t control all alone.

He later on clarified his point by saying that it’s “tiresome beyond belief, but you’ve got to let it go and say ‘This is fine,’ as long as what’s coming out at the end is justifiable”.

Method acting

Surprisingly, this is something that Brian Cox has been raging for years and in so many situations. The actor revealed his hate towards method acting for the first time in 2022 calling it “a crap” in an interview to The Hollywood Reporter, but since then he still had a lot to add to that unflattering description.

In 2023, he was ready to attack method acting once again saying that he didn’t “put up with all that American shit”. Back in April this year someone had enough guts to ask Cox about his least favorite thing, and the actor wasn’t any less furious, repeating that it’s “all bollocks”.

“Idiot” directors (no names were provided)

Though Brian Cox is one of those actors who would spit all the unpleasant truth right to everyone’s face, in this case he found it wise to keep the objects of his hatred anonymous.

Last year Cox spoke out about his personal experience of working with numerous directors, and some of the latter ones were awarded with descriptions like “bozos” and “idiots”. Cox then lamented that some directors who “couldn’t direct a certain thing into a top hat” would never get to be a significant source of inspiration for many young actors in the industry.

The Bible

Slamming people must have been a completed level for Brian Cox, so recently he decided to slam God. In The Starting Line podcast that was released around a week ago the actor crashed the whole idea of some kind of deity having all the control over people on Earth. According to Cox, the whole control system was created by people themselves and that’s why “religion does hold us back because it’s belief systems which are outside ourselves.”
