It seems that pretty much everyone in the cast has accepted the reality of the tension between Will Byers and Mike Wheeler.

As Stranger Things heads into its fifth and final season, those invested in the romantic tension between Mike Wheeler and Will Byers (known to the fandom by its ship name "Byler") might want to brace themselves.

According to Finn Wolfhard, who portrays Mike on the show, the Duffer brothers will not be leaving the relationship between the two best friends hanging. However, it's still unclear whether Byler shippers will love or hate the way the directors decide to resolve the apparent tension between the two.

"As far as the Mike and Will relationship goes, I always found it kind of funny, especially last season of Mike just being so clueless," Wolfhard told IndieWire. "What's going to be so awesome about season five is that the Duffers are sort of trying to thread this needle of trying to get every character to have their perfect ending. So I'm excited to see what ends up happening."

The actor seems to have his own insight into how Mike might react to Will's sexuality and feelings. According to Wolfhard, Mike would be "totally accepting" of his best friend, though the actor never mentioned whether that meant Mike would be able to reciprocate.

So far, the show has made it clear that Mike's heart belongs to Eleven, as he spent the entirety of Season 4 taking control of his feelings and finally expressing them to his girlfriend at the moment she needed it most. However, Mike and Eleven's happiness essentially leads to Will's despair, which we saw in that heartbreaking scene in the van when he could barely hold back his tears after secretly confessing to his best friend.

Stranger Things 5 does not yet have a premiere date, but the filming process is rumored to start in summer 2023.
