Michael Fassbender’s Video Game Adaptation With 19% RT Score Is Suddenly a New Hit on Max

Despite not getting a promised sequel, the movie with a star-studded cast has been getting a second life on streaming for several days now.
Michael Fassbender’s career has recently received a new exciting turn after the actor starred opposite Cate Blanchett in Steven Soderbergh’s new spy thriller Black Bag; the movie was met with accolades and is currently holding a nearly perfect score of 97% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, while the actor’s brand new movie keeps its successful run in theatres worldwide, Fassbender’s box office bomb from several years ago is also rising in streaming charts.
Released back in 2016, the movie came as a long-awaited adaptation of a famous video game, though the flick eventually turned out to be not as exciting.
Assassin’s Creed Is Now One of Top 3 Most Watched Movies on Max in the US
The Fassbender-led historical sci-fi action film has suddenly found a second life thanks to Max’s viewers in the US, currently sitting at the 3rd position, according to FlixPatrol.
Also starring Marion Cotillard, Brendan Gleeson and Jeremy Irons, Assassin’s Creed has its events unfolding in the present where Cal Lynch decides to go back in time, traveling to Spain during the Granada War in 1492.
There he relives the experiences of Aguilar de Nerha, his distant relative and a member of the Assassins who were fighting against the power-hungry Templar Order for the free will.
Using his knowledge about his family’s past, Cal now has to accept his Assassin heritage in an attempt to stop the modern-day Templar Order which aims at enslaving humanity.
Assassin’s Creed Was a Huge Disappointment for the Video Game’s Fans
Despite receiving some praise for being a more faithful adaptation than the previous flicks based on the original video game, Assassin’s Creed was generally met with criticism back in the day, getting backlash from both critics and audiences.
The movie drastically underperformed in the box office, grossing $240 million against its budget of $125 million; additionally, it barely impressed anyone, still holding scores of 19% and 42% on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, the movie’s solid position in Max’s top movie chart suggests Assassin’s Creed has been having a good time on streaming for a while now, which is never a bad thing for a box office-bombing flick.
