The storyline surrounding this character has been powerful and endearing. But will it continue in Season 6?

Summary

  • Unlike the horror of the wildfires in Virgin River Season 5, Part 1, the Christmas episodes gave us many warm and uplifting moments.
  • One of them was the strong romance between Muriel and Cameron, who are willing to love each other despite their age difference and the challenges that come with it.
  • However, the romance might not last too long as one character may leave the show.

This Christmas, the writers of Virgin River gave their viewers a real gift with two specials to wrap up Season 5. Sure, there was enough drama in there. But the last two episodes brought comfort and joy to many of the characters.

One highlight was the sweet May-December romance between Muriel St. Claire (Teryl Rothery) and Dr. Cameron Hayek (Mark Ghanimé). The couple was one of the brightest spots in almost the entire series because of the sincerity of their feelings and determination for each other, and the huge age difference wasn't portrayed in an awkward way. However, some rumors suggest that the happiness may not last long, as one of the two may leave the series as early as next season.

One of the Sweetest Romances in Recent Seasons

Muriel and Cameron's relationship is hard not to root for. Let's face it, Muriel deserves some light and honest love after all she went through with Hope, and when she met Cameron, many of us held our breath hoping it wasn't just a fling.

When they bonded in Season 5, Part 1 after the wildfires destroyed Muriel's home, the joy was literally written all over her face as she was able to feel confident in herself and her attractiveness again — Virgin River wouldn't be Virgin River without smiles and happy moments.

Rumor Has It That This Character May Leave Virgin River

By Christmas, their relationship has only been taken to the next level, except that, much like Mel, Cameron's past has come back into his life: Michelle, his ex-fiancée, shows up in town trying to get him to reconsider their past and start a family together.

Cameron turns out to be a knight in shining armor, and of course, without a second thought, he convinces Muriel that she is his family, and since Muriel doesn't want to have kids at her age, it's fine with him if they don't have kids.

But despite his words, the subject is very serious and requires much more thought and consideration. Later, at the holiday market, Muriel brings up the subject again, realizing that one day a much younger Cameron will want to have children, and as much as she would hate to lose him, she wishes him nothing but happiness first and foremost.

Unfortunately, this is the reason for the rumors that Cameron might leave the show. He may realize that he is not ready to spend the rest of his life without children, return to his ex and leave Virgin River for good.

Why Might This Be More Than Just a Rumor?

While few of us will forgive the writers if this happens, there may well be a rationale for this rumor. It's worth noting that Cameron undoubtedly has genuine feelings for Muriel, and his heart will ache just as much as hers if they can't stay together.

However, the healthy element of their romance is that they recognize what can actually make each other happy. Muriel knows that sooner or later her lover will want kids, and she doesn't want him to feel resentful. Cameron understands this as well and is able to give her the opportunity to find someone else to spend the rest of her life with.

But these events are yet to come, as production on Season 6 is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2024. In other words, Virgin River won't be back on our screens until late 2024 or even 2025.
