Sometimes axing scenes can be the best decision.

After several seasons, some shows look nothing like their pilots years later, but with The Big Bang Theory, the difference was so striking that showrunners even had to cut one particular scene from the original pilots in the re-run.

It was the scene that showed Sheldon and Leonard heading into a high IQ sperm bank to earn money for better internet. Back at the time, Sheldon's character was more sexually-adept than the final version, so it was perfectly fine for him to consider donating sperm to make some extra money.

However, every TBBT fan now knows that it simply has nothing to do with the Sheldon we know and love. The version of the character that we all consider to be canonic is quite sexually averse, and the very idea of donating sperm would not even cross Sheldon's mind.

This is why the showrunners decided to cut the bizarre scene in the reruns, and honestly — good for the show. The decision to cut it did not actually prompt a massive reaction, most likely because it felt only natural for fans to not see the Sheldon they know doing something like that.

"I think that maybe Sheldon wasn't asexual in the pilot. But pilots are made and then kind of changed to fit the whole first season. I think they made that change in between the pilot creation and the greenlight to make this show. Remember, this was an organic hit. It wasn't like it had huge stars, in fact it revived stars from the 90s, specifically actors from Rosanne," Redditor snazzy_E_4eva argued.

Who could have thought that getting rid of a scene that features the main star of the show would actually be the best decision for the show? Sometimes, however, this happens. At least the reruns do not seem out of place and do not establish Sheldon as someone who is completely different to the character that is shown for the rest of the episodes.

Creepiest Thing Howard Has Ever Done on The Big Bang Theory

The controversial scene has never been brought up later in the show, only proving its little significance to the rest of the story. Pretty much everyone in the fandom agrees that removing it was just right for the show.

The very idea of Sheldon being obsessed with sex simply doesn't click with The Big Bang Theory fans right now, because the genius is already believably established as an asexual who is also a bit socially awkward and sometimes borderline rude with his friends. Despite that, one can hardly debate Sheldon's outstanding intellect.

Currently, The Big Bang Theory universe continues to live through its prequel, Young Sheldon, which is now in season 6.
