Take this, Robert Downey Jr and Don Cheadle!

There is no doubt who was the main star of the Iron Man franchise, and arguably the main star of the entire Avengers ensemble.

Robert Downey Jr. will forever be associated with the role of Tony Stark, and his contribution to the adaptation of the Iron Man story will not be forgotten.

However, there is one small detail that the actor has always struggled with: his costume.

We all know who Tony Stark is without his iconic suit: genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. But Robert Downey Jr. without the suit must be a happy man.

As he has admitted many times in interviews and panels, the suit was a real pain to get in and out of and to film in.

Of course, the latest iterations were more or less comfortable and allowed the actor more freedom of movement, but the earliest versions were simply a nightmare to put on.

Not only was Downey Jr. affected by the suit's problems, but so was Don Cheadle, who portrayed James Rhodes, also known as War Machine.

According to Cheadle himself, his costume took even longer to put on: he admitted to spending around 20 minutes just getting into it, with two assistants helping each time.

However, there was one person who had no problem with the suit at all. When it was Gwyneth Paltrow's turn to don the suit as Pepper Potts, she did so without complaint.

She was surprised at how much fuss her co-stars made over the suit, as it worked just well for her from the very beginning.

"It's not as comfortable as yoga pants, but it's a costume!" the actress laughed it off.

Of course, in order for Paltrow to get a much more comfortable version of the suit in Iron Man 3, other actors had to go through many other versions in previous movies.

However, no one is really holding a grudge: the whole suit story is nothing more than a funny running joke.
