To say that Pedro Pascal is still at the top of his acting game would be an understatement. Audiences, still impressed by his performance in Game of Thrones, are now torn between The Last of Us and The Mandalorian, with Marvel's Fantastic Four recently added as the cherry on top.

However, many may have overlooked another of Pascal's 2023 projects that deserves just as much attention. If not for its plot, then for the iconic director attached to it.

What Strange Way of Life Is About?

Directed by Pedro Almodóvar, this short film manages to pack more emotion into half an hour than many feature-length dramas. The Western follows two men who have a long history of working side by side as gunslingers. But 25 years later, they return to the town to seek revenge and protect their loved ones.

Meeting each other triggers all the memories they once shared and the dreams they once had. However, due to the complicated criminal history that brought them together, the two leads, portrayed by Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke, end up with their guns pointed at each other.

While the romantic story between two men in a Western setting may have been controversial, it wasn't what bothered the critics. Strange Way of Life's 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes was largely due to the way the actors approached their characters. While some found the subtle emotion beautifully heartbreaking, others failed to see any chemistry at all.

Overall, however, the film remains a huge success and well worth your time.

Where to Watch Strange Way of Life?

The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17, 2023, and then had a short theatrical run in Spain later that year. It didn't reach theaters in the U.S. or around the world, so not everyone was able to enjoy Pascal and Hawke's performances on the big screen.

Now, however, American audiences will have the opportunity to watch and judge the genre's strangest western from the comfort of their own homes. Starting this Friday, April 12, Strange Way of Life will be available to stream on Netflix.
