It's time for an ultimate life form.
After the tremendous success of 'Sonic the Hedgehog 2', the blue speedster is coming back to big screens in December 2024, fearlessly challenging 'Avatar: The Way of Water', which is slated for the same month release.
With the second movie's cliffhanger explicitly hinting at the appearance of Shadow the Hedgehog – one of the franchise's most successful and beloved characters – people are now enthusiastically fan-casting actors for the voice of the dark hedgehog.
One of the fans' favorites in this race is Keanu Reeves – not least due to the signature John Wick/John Constantine vibes that the actor channels. For Shadow, who is known and loved for being melancholic and distant but also tough and brutal at the same time, Reeves would indeed be a pitch-perfect casting.
However, there are other candidates that fans offer for the role. Particularly, a lot of people rally for Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman in 'Breaking Bad' and 'Better Call Saul') to voice Shadow. There is even a now-viral audiotape illustrating the fancast.
Others argue that hardly anyone could be better at being melancholic and tough at the same time than Robert Pattinson, who basically did just that in Matt Reeves' 'The Batman'. Among other suggestions are Oscar Isaac (Marc Spector and Steven Grant in 'Moon Knight') and Jensen Ackles (Soldier Boy in 'The Boys' and Dean Winchester in 'Supernatural').
With 'Sonic the Hedgehog' slated to be released on December 20, 2024, there is plenty of time for the studio to keep the casting decisions secret. Until then, even more fan casting ideas are inevitably to follow.
