Quentin Tarantino Just Revealed Potential Start Date for His Farewell Movie – Sort Of
And this is the sweetest reason to delay the start of production.
Everyone is waiting for Quentin Tarantino 's last movie. His ninth film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, was released six years ago in 2019. And while other famous directors have made multiple movies in that time, Tarantino admits he's in no rush with his latest project.
According to Variety, Quentin Tarantino shared details about the tenth film during a conversation with film critic Elvis Mitchell at the Sundance Film Festival. The director has hinted that filming on the final movie will not begin until 2026.
Tarantino Won't Start Making His Final Film Until His Son Is Six
Quentin admitted that he will not start production until his son Leo turns six. It is important to Tarantino that the boy remembers the making of the movie:
“Next month my son turns 5, and I have a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. [...] I kind of want to not do whatever movie I end up doing until my son is at least 6. That way he'll know what's going on, he'll be there, and it will be a memory for the rest of his life.”
Regarding his daughter, the director said that she is already a genius and that she will definitely understand everything even at such a young age. Yes, that's sweet.
The Tenth Movie Will Not Be the End of Tarantino's Career
When Tarantino spoke about ending his film career, he clarified that he was not referring to theater or television, in which the director already has experience. In 2005, he directed the two-part finale of the fifth season of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, for which he was nominated for an Emmy.
As early as 2020, the director said he wanted to direct Bounty Law, a TV Western based on the fictional '60s series that starred Leonardo DiCaprio 's character in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Tarantino set out to tell a dramatic story in a half-hour format and wrote five half-hour episodes. At the time, the director said that he had serious intentions to make a series based on this script.
In November 2022, he repeated that he was thinking about returning to television and shooting an eight-episode series in 2023, although he did not specify what kind of project he was talking about.

Even if Quentin doesn't succeed in television, he can always continue his literary career. In recent years, the director has published two books – a novelization of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Cinema Speculation, dedicated to the key films of the 70s.
Tarantino also started a podcast called Video Archives, which he hosts with Roger Avary, co-writer of Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. The podcast is named after the video store where Quentin and Roger worked in the 1980s.
