'Spaceballs' Sequel Brings Back Cult Classic Cast Including Mel Brooks & Rick Moranis: What We Know

Amazon MGM Studios is bringing back Spaceballs with a new sequel, and excitingly, original stars Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis are set to reprise their iconic roles as Lone Starr and Dark Helmet.
Sources tell that the film will also feature Keke Palmer (known for One of Them Days), though her character details remain under wraps, along with the plot. Additionally, Lewis Pullman, Bill’s son and rising star known for Thunderbolts, has joined the cast in an undisclosed role, marking a notable family reunion. Moranis’s return is especially significant, as he has largely stayed out of the spotlight for decades. The original film’s creator Mel Brooks will also appear once again, reprising his role as Yogurt. The project is scheduled for theatrical release in 2027 and has been described as “A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.”
Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) directs from a script by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad — who is also expected to star and produce alongside Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Jeb Brody, Brooks, and Greenbaum. Kevin Salter, Adam Merims, Samit, and Hernandez serve as executive producers. The original Spaceballs (1987) was a cult hit parodying Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and other sci-fi classics. It followed Lone Starr (Pullman), Dark Helmet (Moranis), President Skroob (Brooks), and others in their comedic battle to save Druidia.
Pullman is known for roles in Independence Day, Lost Highway, and recent series like The Sinner. Moranis gained fame with Ghostbusters, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, and more before stepping back from acting in the late ’90s to focus on family life. He recently teamed with Ryan Reynolds on a Mint Mobile ad in 2020. Palmer has been gaining momentum after her success in One of Them Days; she’ll next appear in Amazon’s The Pickup with Eddie Murphy and other upcoming projects.
