And yes, Steve Carell was on a hockey team.

If someone told you that the actor who blessed us with the world's best boss Michael Scott, Steve Carell, could actually just remain a professional hockey player (which he was), would you ever believe it?

And can you even imagine a world where we don't have Carell's Michael Scott to always be there for us when we rewatch The Office for like a 100th time?

Well, this could have happened, because apparently, Carell's comedic genius wasn't actually so obvious to literally everybody around him. At least we know that was true for his... hockey teammates!

The actor was a solid hockey player when he was in college, having helped his team win the national championship at the squirt level as a goalie. Turns out, his teammates were so focused on, you know, hockey, they wouldn't actually notice the blossoming comedic talent of their goaltender.

No one could have predicted Carell was going to be a huge star and a comedy genius, and the actor-to-be-himself was even planning to apply to law school, of all things!

“We didn’t know he was funny because we were idiots,” Bill Eaton, a defenseman for Denison, where Carell played too, recalled in an interview with The Athletic.

Anyone who knows and loves The Office probably wonders how on Earth can one not know that Steve Carell is funny. Well, the world is full of mysteries; luckily, we never got to live in the universe where Carell decided to go to law school, and not start acting.

Because otherwise, there would have been no Michael Scott debuting in The Office in 2005, no "Parkour!", no "I am dead inside," no, God, please, no, we don't even want to imagine a universe like that.
