The upcoming final season may have a lot more surprises than we are ready for.

Many people have suspected that Will Byers is connected to Vecna, Stranger Things ' main villain, in a very mysterious and unnerving way, since he is able to "look inside" Vecna's head and predict what the monster is about to do.

Besides, the entire fandom is convinced that Will is about to be targeted by Vecna in season 5 — not least due to Will's ability to "feel" him. One fan theory, however, goes as far as suggesting that even if Vecna does target Will, it won't happen in the same way it went with other victims.

According to the theory, Vecna might try and make an unexpected alliance with Will and have the younger Byers joining him, while also helping him understand himself more — clearly not in the best way.

"One way he can keep Will on his side is by turning him away from all of his friends," the theory goes. "Vecna is really good about getting into other people's heads. Vecna is going to help Will find his independence [...] by showing Will visions and talking to him about how his friends treated him."

Naturally, the theory adds, Vecna is going to keep only the bad stuff in and demonize the Hawkins gang in his eyes. It's likely that Vecna will also use Will's complicated relations with his best friend Mike (who many people in the fandom believe is Will's secret crush).

"Will is going to get his villain arc this season, but it'll spark from his own insecurities and the "help" of Vecna," the theory continues.

Many people believe that Will is going to be the key to defeating Vecna in the final season, but who says it can't happen after his downfall to the darkest part of his personality? Previously, Will had already fallen victim to the Mind Flayer, and it might have been Vecna testing the ground to find out how he can get to Will and the rest of the Hawkins gang through him.

Season 5 will conclude the Stranger Things story. The writing is already underway, but it's unclear when the shooting will start, with the premiere date to be scheduled by Netflix later.
