In season 1, we had an absolutely terrifying villain of a main character. In season 3... well, do we really need to explain?

If The Boys wants to keep its audience as thrilled for the upcoming season 4 as it were with the previous three, it needs to do something with the main antagonist, Homelander. And that's not us speaking; no, this is what fans think about Anthony Starr's once-terrifying psychopath of a superhero.

According to the fans, Homelander is no longer as intimidating as he used to be in the first two seasons. Instead of sticking to this, season 3 delved more into his insanity — and may have accidentally turned him into a joke, fans say.

"Season 3 however decided to full on ride the meme of him being a conservative parody and a joke. He doesn't feel scary in season 3 because they're just using him to make fun of right wing politics so often," Redditor Acalson noted.

Other fans agreed that Homelander has apparently been "sacrificed on the alter of satire", with season 1 and season 3 versions of him almost being a different person.

If season 4 is not looking forward discarding Homelander as a main menace, then the showrunners might want to make him act like one. However, it also might be the case that the show is deliberately trying to brush Homelander away and have him substituted by, maybe, his father?..

Anyway, this is something we will get to learn later, when season 4 finally comes out. Currently, it is being filmed, which gives fans hope that they will see more of The Boys at some point in mid-2023, although Amazon is yet to announce the premiere date.
