'ER' Cast 20 Years Later: Where Are They Now?

If you watched The Pitt and are now binge-watching ER, wondering what happened to the show's main stars, then you're in the right place.
At the turn of the millennium, the world went crazy for ER, which won eight Emmys after its first season. A few years before the debut of House, viewers were captivated by pediatrician Doug Ross and young surgeon John Carter.
Recently, interest in ER was renewed by The Pitt, where Noah Wyle also starred. So, we asked ourselves: how are the ER stars doing today?
1. Noah Wyle – John Carter
John Carter appeared in the first episode as a new resident. Carter's transformation into a professional allowed Noah Wyle to maintain interest in his character for many years.
Wyle played a supporting role in Donnie Darko, and three installments of The Librarian were released in 2004, 2006, and 2008, where he played the main role. In 2013, he produced the series of the same name, which lasted four seasons.
Wyle's most recent project, The Pitt, is this year's sensation and one of the best medical dramas in recent years that was originally conceived as a spinoff of ER.
2. Anthony Edwards – Mark Greene
Dr. Mark Greene may not have been the most charming character in the series, but he was the central figure and soul of the show.
After leaving the series, he starred in David Fincher's Zodiac and Rob Reiner's Flipped. The actor mostly plays secondary characters in TV series and has appeared in projects such as Tales of the Walking Dead, Inventing Anna, and Law & Order True Crime.
3. George Clooney – Doug Ross
Pediatrician Doug Ross is undoubtedly the series' main troublemaker. At the same time, he is the object of desire for nearly the entire female staff of the hospital, who shamelessly takes advantage of this.
By the time he appeared in ER, George Clooney had already played dozens of roles, but had not had a breakthrough. It was ER that made him a real star.
One of the brightest stars in Hollywood today, Clooney no longer exhausts himself with filming, taking significant breaks and giving preference to his own projects.
His most recent notable production was the action comedy Wolfs, which remained at the top of Apple TV+ for several weeks.
4. Sherry Stringfield – Susan Lewis
If Mark Greene is the soul of the show, then Susan Lewis is its honor and conscience. Many patients owe their lives to her selfless dedication.
Sherry was not a sought-after actress before or after ER. Her greatest success was her role in the horror The Stepfather. Her last on-screen appearance was a recurring role in Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.
5. Julianna Margulies – Carol Hathaway
Perhaps the most subtle and multifaceted character in the series is Carol. She constantly advocates for the rights of nurses, whose work is often overlooked by doctors.
After leaving the series, Julianna Margulies played leading roles in the horror film Ghost Ship, the comedy City Island, and the miniseries The Lost Room. Julianna also played a minor role in The Sopranos.
Margulies's main project was the series The Good Wife, for which she received a Golden Globe. Her most recent role was as Laura Peterson in The Morning Show.
6. Eriq La Salle – Peter Benton
Peter Benton first appears in the series as an experienced doctor who has not yet been granted full autonomy. However, his talent and energy quickly establish him as a key member of the department.
After ER, he played the lead role in the series The System, which was canceled after nine episodes. Benton has also appeared in supporting roles in series such as Under the Dome and 24.
La Salle's most recent work in a full-length project was a supporting role in Logan.
