The Idol Is One Step Away From Being Canceled With This Unexpected Episode Cut
The network can deny everything, but the audience feels the updated statement coming.
To say that the release of The Idol was accompanied by another scandal at every step would be an understatement.
The show, which was considered torture porn by so many people even before its release, failed to live up to the expectations of even the most loyal fans of The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp, making it an instant flop.
The way four episodes that have already aired have managed to infuriate just about everyone, from K-pop fans, for shamelessly using one of the most popular artists to promote themselves but cutting her lines from the script, to the Parents Television and Media Council is almost admirable.
Considering that HBO's audience is used to seeing the most violent and exploitative scenes, The Idol must've taken it to a whole other level to get such a reaction from the public.
However, the journey does not seem to be going so well, as the show was rumored to be canceled after season 1.
Although HBO denied that any decision was made in their Twitter statement, all the facts speak for themselves: there is no way a network would be willing to go through all that backlash for a show with a very mediocre reception.
Now, with HBO promoting episode 5 of The Idol as the final episode of the season, there is only more evidence to believe that the show will be cut short.
There is an official explanation for getting rid of episode 6, which was originally supposed to be the final episode, but it just doesn't seem convincing enough to the audience.
Sam Levinson joining the production of The Idol, making his creative changes, and rearranging the number of episodes makes perfect sense.
What doesn't make any sense at all is changing the number of episodes in public information in the post-production stage when the show is already on the air.
