It’s a waiting game for fandom from now on.

To say that the reviews for The Last of Us Part II were bombarded with hate immediately upon its release would be an understatement. Unfortunately, players weren't ready for some of the major events the game hinted at, just as they weren't ready for the new antagonist, Abby Anderson.

Partly because of what she did in the game, but mostly because of her masculine looks and assertiveness, Abby quickly became the most hated video game character on the Internet. No matter how heartfelt and touching her story was, and no matter how deep The Last of Us Part II took its players to explore her background, opinions didn't really change.

Many fans dreaded the day when the game would be adapted by HBO, not because they were afraid of the production quality, but because they could imagine the wave of hatred the cast would face.

Unfortunately, this was already the case for Bella Ramsey when she took on the role of Ellie. Even before the show was released, many fans jumped to the conclusion that the actress was wrong for the role, resulting in an entire online campaign against her.

Knowing that Abby is just as important a character, but even more hated by herself, it's hard to imagine how fans will take the casting updates now.

What's nice to know is that the showrunner's mind is apparently already made up about the actress. As Craig Mazin admitted in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, he has the next season all planned out in his head. It's only a matter of time before the strikes are resolved and the show resumes production.

Although the showrunner is adamant about not giving away anything that could be considered a spoiler, he is sure that the situation won't take too long to get back to normal. Until then, fans can enjoy the final weeks of fandom in peace before the media is flooded with all the casting news and anticipated release dates.
