Apparently, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan had no idea that their favorite Geralt wouldn’t return after S3 during the filming, and now they’re mourning his departure through their characters.

It may sound strange, but it’s us, the fans, who knew about Henry Cavill ’s potential exit from The Witcher a bit ahead of time — and the fact that we didn’t quite exist on the set was also clocking in. The stars of the show were busy shooting the third season while we were out here discussing the drama, and they missed it entirely.

In their recent interview, The Witcher’s main actresses were asked about whether their grief over Cavill’s departure influenced their final scenes of S3, and they revealed that they were kept in the dark and didn’t know anything until after the cameras stopped rolling… So no, the scenes remained intact.

“For me, it’s not reflecting on any final scenes: I think my final scene was me shoving mashed potato down. It’s more so… This sounds crazy, but sort of like mourning through Ciri, because we really got to become so close through those characters,” shared Freya Allan (Ciri).

For the young actress, learning about Cavill’s exit was a tough blow for many reasons, but the most important one was the feeling she’d developed for the actor. Freya explained that since Henry was playing her adoptive father, the news hit her hard — and she was sad that their little “family” was falling apart like that.

Anya Chalotra was also devastated by the news: she had outstanding chemistry with Cavill on the screen and they became good friends. The actress was actually glad that she only learned about his exit after finishing the final scenes — otherwise, it would’ve been hard to stay professional even though she’d still try her best to.

“I don’t think it changed the way I would have dealt with doing my final scenes with Henry… It’s quite nice actually that I didn’t know and could just live in that moment. It was like 3 am, I think. I would have been bawling,” revealed the Yennefer actress.

If you were expecting some heartbreaking final scenes between Allan, Chalotra, and Cavill, you won’t be getting those — but it will still be heartbreaking nonetheless. It might be a good thing that the two actresses didn’t know about their Witcher’s departure back then because mashed potatoes with tears must taste awful.
