Netflix couldn’t give The Witcher fans everything they wanted, but we have to admit that the finale of S3 gave us more than we expected from the show at this point.

As Part II of The Witcher ’s third season was released, it wreaked emotional havoc among the fans of the show. While many had been heartbroken by Henry Cavill ’s leave before that, the finale of this season rubbed salt into the wound in the most devastating yet beautiful way that resonated with the audience greatly.

After having watched the long and painful development of the most unconventional family’s relationship, it’s hard to let go. For three seasons, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri have been growing closer together, struggling with their problems, and dealing with common enemies together, and the S3’s finale drew the line under all of that.

The end of this season finally had all three characters open up to each other and admit their feelings. Yennefer, who had to come a long way to make right for her wrongs toward Ciri, called the young girl her daughter and swore to always be there for her, and Geralt, too, confessed his feelings for the sorceress.

These scenes were the embodiment of emotional damage, and many fans were left devastated by their beauty and immense sadness. The pinnacle of the trio’s family relationship just had to happen right before Henry Cavill’s leave which has the audience thoroughly distressed and discontent.

These resolutions and confessions are painful as they appear to be the show’s final farewell to Cavill and his Geralt of Rivia. Whatever happens next, he won’t be there: after having his weird but loving family finally united, the Witcher will be gone forever, leaving his two swords for Liam Hemsworth to pick up… And that’s a tough blow.

Nevertheless, despite the sadness surrounding the season’s finale, The Witcher did a phenomenal job and finally delivered something the fans have been craving since the start of the series. The emotional baggage of the final episodes is way too heavy for us viewers but hey, there’s treasure inside that baggage, so we’ll have to fare.
