This 94%-Rated Straight-To-Video Gem Is the Best Predator Sequel Out There, Fans Say

This installment goes right back to the roots of the original movie.
Predator in the Guatemalan jungle, concrete Los Angeles, Aztec pyramids and secret labs – for more than 30 years, Fox has tested its monster in a variety of settings.
Even in the face of harsh criticism and disappointing box office results, the studio responds with its head held high – they launch another sequel, spin-off or prequel about a representative of an alien race.
The Predator franchise has had its ups and downs (but mostly downs), and it seemed that its golden age had passed. But three years ago Prey was released, which fans now call the second best movie after the original.
What Is Prey About?
In 1719, Naru, an experienced Comanche warrior, is about to join her older brother on a hunt. But then Naru witnesses a fiery object streaking across the sky.
The Predator, an alien hunter, has landed on the land of the Native Americans and begun his own hunt. Now the woman is forced to fight the alien to save her life.
Prey Is a Clever Reimagining of the Predator Franchise
In 10 Cloverfield Lane, director Dan Trachtenberg juxtaposed thriller and sci-fi elements in a bold reimagining of the Cloverfield universe. With Prey, he pulls a similar trick – refreshing the Predator franchise with new ideas.
Instead of tough Special Forces guys with rifles, the focus is on Native American hunters armed with bows, arrows and tomahawks. The confrontation takes place in the distant past, which is also unusual for Predator.
Prey Has a Bright and Well-Thought-Out Main Character
The main feature of Prey is the story of Naru's survival. The main character gets out of the swamp, gets food and even improves her weapons along the way.
The survival element in Prey serves as preparation for the spectacular final battle. After a series of scenes with Naru's trials, there is no question how this resourceful girl came up with a cunning plan to defeat the Predator.
Prey is full of exhilarating action scenes. Naru deftly deals with all the problems, but at the same time she often finds herself on the brink of life and death. It is impossible to tear yourself away from the screen, thanks to Amber Midthunder's energetic performance and the dynamic and brutal fights.
Prey Is the Closest Sequel to the Original Predator
Dan Trachtenberg stays true to his chosen format to the very last minute – the movie as a permanent hunt, in which limbs are torn off, traps are set and battle trophies are won.
This is why Prey, which for some reason didn't get a theatrical release, has been called the closest thing to John McTiernan's old-school Predator – and do not be fooled by the gender dispositions and the transition from machismo to a seasoned feminine spirit.
