Tom Cruise's magnum-opus of action filmmaking is still more than a month away from release, but some lucky folks have already seen it at Paramount's special presentation at CinemaCon.

The upcoming blockbuster will be a sequel to the coveted 1986 film, and several characters, including Cruise's pilot Pete Mitchell, will return to the big screen. 'Maverick', directed by Joseph Kosinski and co-starring Miles Teller, was filmed with Cruise's usual gusto, with the actors doing all the stunts themselves (including flying quite fast military planes).

'Maverick' premiered in its final form for the first time at CinemaCon 2022, and Paramount's biggest film of the year has already earned rave reviews from film professionals and lucky fans alike.

People praise the sequel for respecting the original while successfully trying to bring something new and exciting to the budding franchise. Mind-blowing and incredibly directed flight sequences have left audiences thrilled, who are now urging future viewers to see the film on the biggest screen possible.

And the action doesn't seem to overshadow emotional aspects of the story, with many praising Cruise's performance and applauding the overall direction of the script.

Some even go so far as to proclaim 'Top Gun: Maverick' the best film of 2022. So, fingers crossed for the 2023 Oscars?

'Top Gun: Maverick' flies into theatres on May 27, 2022.
