The grand finale of Vin Diesel’s notorious franchise has undergone major delays.

Summary:

  • Having run since 2001, the Fast & Furious franchise is nearing its finale with the upcoming Fast 11.
  • According to Tyrese Gibson, the writing and pre-production of the new movie hit major delays due to the Hollywood strikes.
  • Tyrese expects the cameras to start rolling at the start of 2025, but even then, it’s likely the Fast & Furious finale will only hit the theaters in 2026.

Over 20 years ago, 2001’s The Fast and the Furious started one of the biggest and most ambitious action movie franchises of this century. Two and a half decades later, Vin Diesel is ready to roll out the grand finale of his proudest film series, concluding it with Fast 11 — or, rather, he would have been ready to do it if not for the jeopardy and setback the final movie has admittedly encountered.

Fast 11 Got Seriously Stalled, Tyrese Says

Despite the huge sensations like Barbie and Oppenheimer hitting the theaters in summer 2023, the previous year was rather for the movie industry, to say the least. Following closely after the COVID restrictions and budget cuts, the Hollywood strikes paralyzed most American studios, leading to big delays in all stages of production.

The same fate befell Fast & Furious 11, according to Tyrese Gibson. The actor recently sat down with CBR and laid the situation out, revealing the dates of camera rolling.

“Because of the strike, both strikes, there were some real delays in writing and kind of getting the film up on its feet. I'm hearing that we're going to get it going right in 2025, right at the top of the year. I think right now, the pressure is to elevate the movie and take the film to some other levels,” Tyrese shared.

Fast 11 May Not Arrive in Two Years

Despite Vin Diesel’s original intentions, the massive delays led to Fast & Furious 11 getting postponed for months. According to Tyrese, the pre-production stages are nearing completion, meaning that hopefully, the principal photography might finally begin in… Several more months, at the very least. Yes, that’s some serious delay.

Even if the cameras start rolling at the start of 2025, it’d be somewhat naive to expect the movie to hit the theaters the same year. Most likely, the grand finale to Vin Diesel’s franchise will be released in 2026, meaning we’re stuck for one and a half or even two more years without some quality bald men action.
