With season 14 of the beloved police procedural incoming, do we need to get ready for some emotional goodbyes?

When you have a procedural show that has been going on for quite some time — like, say, Law & Order, Grey's Anatomy, or Blue Bloods — you have to prepare yourself for the day you'll have to say goodbye. Even if the show itself doesn't stop, there will be a moment when its main character no longer has any stories to tell, and that's only natural.

Grey's Anatomy has already said goodbye to Meredith Grey, and even Law & Order fans already believe it's time for Olivia Benson to follow her footsteps. What about Blue Bloods' Danny Reagan, then? Do we need to prepare for him hanging up his badge?

Well, let's see what Donnie Wahlberg, who has been portraying our beloved cop for years, has to say.

In his interview with ET, Wahlberg acknowledged that the time to for his character to retire might come soon, but hopefully not soon enough. It turns out he remains incredibly grateful and inspired by his job at Blue Bloods.

"I have a great cast, who's become family, we have a great crew and so many loyal viewers and fans," he marveled. "It's just unbelievable. So it's not that I feel relief as much as I kind of have to pinch myself sometimes and go, like, how did this happen?" he said.

Besides, the success of Law & Order also inspires the actor a lot; while the SVU franchise has stayed strong for 25 seasons, Wahlberg only hopes Blue Bloods will be able to follow the lead.

So no, as the Reagan family heads into a 14th chapter, it looks like Danny is here to stay. Needless to say, it's a huge "phew" for fans, who have already gone through an emotional rollercoaster when they found out that the Blue Bloods cast had to agree to significant pay cuts to let the show stay on air.

The premiere date for Blue Bloods season 14 remains to be scheduled.
