Who We Are
We're a small team, and we're the kind of people who finish a series at 2 a.m. and then spend forty minutes reading about how it was made. Movies, TV, anime — we've never treated any of it as background noise.
Here's the thing about a good story: it doesn't stay where you left it. You recognize yourself in a character you were supposed to dislike. You get pulled into a world with nothing in common with your own and come out slightly rearranged. You're doing the dishes on Thursday and still thinking about one scene from Sunday. That's the part we're chasing.
We also think most stories have a second layer, and it's usually more interesting than the first.
A thriller, a fantasy epic, a mid-season episode nobody talks about — any of it can work purely as entertainment and still be saying something about the people who made it, the characters on screen, or the person watching. We like pulling at those threads. We don't like pretending there's one correct reading and everyone else missed it.
What that looks like in practice
- We watch the thing. All of it, not the recap.
- We rewatch scenes when memory isn't good enough, which is most of the time.
- We check what we're claiming — release dates, production history, who wrote what, what the source material actually said.
- We compare sources instead of repeating whichever one ranked first.
- We disagree with each other in writing, publicly, and don't smooth it over afterward.
We're not here for the headline count
Sometimes the honest answer is a recommendation. Sometimes it's explaining why a show everyone loved didn't land for us, and being specific about why rather than hiding behind "it's not for everyone." And sometimes it's going back to a film or a series that got buried on release and making the case it deserved the first time.
We're viewers and readers before we're writers. The research, the fact-checking, the late-night rewatch that starts as due diligence and ends at episode six — all of it comes out of that.
Why Startefacts exists
We wanted a place to talk about the things we enjoy, question, argue about, and keep returning to, without flattening any of it into a five-star score. That's the whole plan.
